Majoring in Housing Studies, am I making a mistake?
Right now I am seriously considering a major in Housing Studies at the University of Minnesota. I believe I will really enjoy this major. However, the housing market is really bad right now and I do not want to be unemployed and desperate right out of college. I am very skeptical about majoring in something so specific but, I believe this major is better than a Real Estate major which was my next choice because the Housing Studies major has a social science core which I like. I wanted a major that was a mix between business, and a social science type field. What is really nagging me though is what I’m going to do when I graduate, it is hard to accumulate school debt not knowing where the money will come from to pay off the loans in the future. Also, I do not want to be tied to a specific line of work. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Also, when I tell people what I’m majoring in, I have to explain to them for like 5 minutes what it’s all about. Is that normal?

Well, you certainly have reason to be concerned…I have to be honest…I had never heard of a Housing Studies major until now…Perhaps you should pursue something more concrete that has social science at its core…but then again, who am I to say what you wanna do? But, I’d think about it…and look at the stats…Its better to do something you like than something you don’t ! Good Luck
