I would like to start selling some baked goods..just around holidays or like a "on the side" thing..do I need to be licensed to do this or have inspections??..Or if its just a here and there thing..is it legal to just sell from my home?. (I’m in TN)

Any advice on a move from Minneapolis to Chicago?

I’m currently a junior at the U of M in Minneapolis, and was hoping to get some advice on Chicago living? I like Minneapolis, but I’m looking to get out of Minnesota once I graduate (lived here all my life, and am ready to try something new). I visited Chicago a few times in high school and really loved it, however, I don’t have any info when it comes to actually living there. If someone could compare Minneapolis (which I am very familiar with) to Chicago (in terms of cost of living, winter weather, the over-all "feel" of the city, ease of finding an apartment, etc.), that would be very helpful.

Moving questions?

My fiancee (soon-to-be-wife) and I are moving from Minneapolis MN to Austin TX in September. We would prefer that the move not cost more than 00. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment, and will probably be paring down our stuff to move into a 1 br. But we have the usual, 37" LCD TV, sofa, boxes full of wedding/kitchen gifts, closets full of clothes, etc. Can we hire any commercial movers to do this for 00? We’ve looked into organizations like "Nationwide Relocation Services" but they appear to mostly be scams.
Does anyone have GOOD experience with Nationwide Relocation Service or American Van Lines (Not NORTH American Van Lines)? Or should we just get a U-Haul?

I attend college in Minnesota and will relocate to the Denver metro area in January 2008. I will begin sending my resume out in February. In a perfect world, I would be able to schedule all of my interviews during a one week period in the summer.

What is the appropriate way to go about this? Should I mention that, "I will be in the area between XYZ dates and would be available for a face-to-face interview at that time?"

Assess my 5 choices: Energy Star replacement windows, installed price, in N. Minnesota?

I’m getting estimates that vary, and I’m getting confused, Window size is mostly 33" x 45" or so. I’m told all are 30% Energy Star rebate eligible, but I worry that contractors simply jack up the price to collect that up front anyway, We’ll be living in the house for years. A real estate investor/rehab guru says it takes 20 minutes to change out a window. A experienced but unlicensed handyman said the same. Quotes from licensed contractors seem to vary wildly, here are the four I’ve gotten:

1) 2 each, installed: Noradex/Reynolds (Simonton?) "Generations" vinyl insert windows (add each for "glass pack").

2. Andersen Renewal ("Fibrex" = 40% Wood/60% Vinyl) for 8 each (insert) or 92 each (All New)

3) 0 each installed for Andersen 400 series, 8 per window, (0 of that is for labor).

4) 1 installed for American Craftsmen vinyl double-hung inserts (add for "Thermo-Tech" option, whatever that is)

5) 6 installed for Simonton 6500 vinyl insert windows (Home Depot did estimate)

Which would you choose? Any tips or pitfalls I should be aware of? Thank you!

In Minneapolis MN in Hennepin County, how do I go about having my ex-husband give up all parental rights?

I live in Hennepin County in Minneapolis Minnesota, my husband left me when I was 9 months pregnant and I’ve been divorced since November of 2007. I have full custody of my 13 month-old son, and in my divorce papers it says that my ex-husband "is awarded the right of reasonable parenting time" with my son. He does not pay child support, has not called, and has not seen my son in 10 months. He wants nothing to do with my son. I’m in a wonderful relationship now and I’m marrying the man who wants to be my child’s father and moving out of state next year, so I went today to get the ‘Motion to Relocate Child’ paperwork. But I was thinking ‘if he’d just give up his parental rights altogether, I wouldn’t have to fill out this paperwork.’ So I want to ask him to give up his parental rights. But I don’t know how to go about doing it or how long it will take. I’m sure he would do it because I know he has to be afraid that they’re about to garnish his check! He needs his Jordan’s! Lol!

Workers Still Hard to Find for Labor-Intensive or Seasonal Jobs

While the recession has hurt the construction and hospitality industries, other industries that traditionally employ immigrant workers are still going strong. Even in recession, the agricultural, food processing and nursery-landscape industries are struggling to find willing labor. Though U.S. unemployment nears 10 percent, companies in these sectors still depend on immigrants to fill the void. In contrast to immigrant workers, who are more flexible and relocate more readily, newly-unemployed, skilled U.S. workers typically aren’t interested in these lower-paying, physically-demanding and seasonal jobs. Immigrants are more likely to accept short-term, seasonal jobs that last only three to six months and are often located in
remote areas.

“Even at a time of rising unemployment, there is a need for rational immigration reform to ensure a willing and able workforce for the food and ag industries,” contends Daryn McBeth, president Minnesota Agri-Growth Council.
