Where in the USA is the best place to live for me?

I own & operate a flooring business in Minnesota. I know that starting over with my business will take time in another area, however, I don’t believe this is an area I want to live forever. Also, in the past year there has been a huge surge of people in the same business slashing prices. I realize the economy is not great right now, but I feel that there are areas out there where I can do very well. I like a medium to large size communities. Areas I have considered are Austin TX, Madison, Wi, Colorado Springs, Norfolk Va, Des Moines, IA, & Milwaukee Wi. I am open to other areas as well, I am looking for some answers from people who are maybe in real estate, construction, contracting or similar fields that have lived in some different parts of the country. Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When I make a blog post should my keywords be specific to the blog post or the website?

Right now I’m running a series of posts, 365 things to do in the Twin Cities. I post something new to do each day. The posts aren’t really related to the website, but I’m not sure if I should use keywords that are specific to the website, in this case real estate or keywords specific the actual post, for example, a post about the minnesota zoo, should that post of keyword specific to the minnesota zoo?

Has anyone heard the original author of the Joint Custody Laws passed away?

Father Makes Two
Time Magazine
By Margot Roosevelt – Sunday, Nov. 11, 2003

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,183968-1,00.html

Quote:
"As late as 1971, the Minnesota State Bar Association’s handbook advised lawyers and judges that "except in very rare cases, the father should not have custody of the minor children. He is usually unqualified psychologically and emotionally." When James Cook, a Los Angeles real estate lobbyist, divorced in 1974 and sought shared custody of his son, "the judge thought it was preposterous," he recalls. "He told me, ‘I don’t have permission to do it.’" Outraged, Cook and some friends organized the Joint Custody Association and in 1979 pushed through the California legislature the first law encouraging joint custody. All 50 states eventually followed suit….."

James Cook passed away last weekend. Though his name was not known in the annuls of history, the result of his work affected millions now living.

At this point, no Memorial has been announced.

Majoring in Housing Studies, am I making a mistake?

Right now I am seriously considering a major in Housing Studies at the University of Minnesota. I believe I will really enjoy this major. However, the housing market is really bad right now and I do not want to be unemployed and desperate right out of college. I am very skeptical about majoring in something so specific but, I believe this major is better than a Real Estate major which was my next choice because the Housing Studies major has a social science core which I like. I wanted a major that was a mix between business, and a social science type field. What is really nagging me though is what I’m going to do when I graduate, it is hard to accumulate school debt not knowing where the money will come from to pay off the loans in the future. Also, I do not want to be tied to a specific line of work. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Also, when I tell people what I’m majoring in, I have to explain to them for like 5 minutes what it’s all about. Is that normal?

Mo’ money! Mo’ money! Mo’ Money! Mo’ money! Mo’ problems?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?

• William "Bud" Post, who won .2 million in the Pennsylvania Lottery in 1988, had a brother who tried to have him killed for the inheritance. Post lost and spent all his winnings. He was living off Social Security when he died in January.

• Two years after winning a million Texas Lottery in 1997, Billie Bob Harrell Jr. committed suicide. He had bought cars, real estate, gave money to his family, church and friends. After his death it was not clear whether there was money left for estate taxes.

• Victoria Zell, who shared an million Powerball jackpot with her husband in 2001, is serving time in a Minnesota prison, her money gone. Zell was convicted in March 2005 in a drug- and alcohol-induced collision that killed one person and paralyzed another.

• Evelyn Adams, who won the New Jersey Lottery twice, in 1985 and 1986, for a total .4 million, gambled and gave away all of her money. She was poor by 2001, and living in a trailer.

Rejected rental application in Minnesota?

I asked this question in the renting & real estate section and didn’t get any really helpful answers so I’ll try here.

Basically my husband and I applied at an apartment in mid June for August 1st. The 1st week of July we finally got a letter saying we were rejected due to unsatisfactory credit history, unsatisfactory debt to income ratio and unsatisfactory or insufficient rental history. We were shocked because based on their rental criteria we should qualify with the possible exception of our credit (mostly due to student loans.) We were told if our credit wasn’t perfect we would still qualify, but with a larger deposit.

The basic rental criteria was must make 2.5-3 times rent (which we do), must not have any unlawful detainers, evictions or owe money to landlords (which we don’t have any of), and must have a history of satisfactory credit (which is very vague.)

After we got the letter I called the management company and asked for the specific reasons we were rejected.
The woman refused to give me any information. She said that I could write to them requesting the information and then they would mail it to us. She was very rude and wouldn’t even tell me their rental criteria until I argued that there was no reasonable reason she could have for not disclosing it.

My husband and I were of course forced to look for another apartment- and with so little time left a lot of the places we were interested in are now taken. All the places we’ve looked at since we got the rejection letter seem shocked by how the aforementioned property dealt with the situation. The place we applied to now doesn’t understand why we would have been rejected either.

Its our right in Minnesota to dispute the information that the property management based their decision on and they must investigate and reconsider us. How can we do that if they won’t tell us why they rejected us?

My question is- is there anything I can do?
In addition to the application fee, we had to spent time and money looking for a different place to rent from. We wasted over 2 weeks waiting for them to run our application, when we called the property during those 2 weeks we were simply told that they hadn’t gotten around to running our information.

Is there affordable land for sale in the Northeast?

I’m interested in purchasing land in New York or some other state in the Northeast and was curious what were good locations. Doesen’t have to be a lot of land either, I’m content with at least 1 acre, but would love 10 or more acres to build a home. I’m willing to consider more northern states such as Maine, and even Minnesota (I know that it isn’t really northeast, but just saying I’d consider it)

Looking forward to hearing some suggestions. And don’t mention Yahoo Real Estate or some other Realtor website please, because I’ve been using websites, I just want a person’s personal opinion.
