Minnesota Vikings 2008 Season Preview

Minnesota Vikings 2008 Season Preview

If the Minnesota Vikings had a wish for this season, it would be for Adrian Peterson to avoid injuries on the 2008-2009 campaign.

Adrian Peterson can be portrayed as a NASCAR vehicle on the field; authority, changing lanes at high crazy speed and avoiding traffic at close turns!

It seems like Minnesota is all prepared. They’ve overloaded good special teams, the defensive line is bursting and ready to go and so is the offensive line. All of the young guys are sitting in the back; many of them have matured enough to where they don’t need anyone among them. Peterson’s behind the wheel, so it looks like the Vikings are packing up the vans right now; by the way, this is a road trip. If we had their intense offensive line, we would in all probability travel on the ground as well!.

Now the rest of the V8′s; left-side tandem Bryant McKinnie (tackle) and guard Steve Hutchinson are absolute track machines. McKinnie is 6’8″, 335; Hutchinson has been to the last four Pro Bowls, chiefly because he’s as energetic and formidable as an SUV. He’s a great fit in this zone-blocking scheme. Center Matt Birk is a mastermind as well, both on and off the field.

In some of the past articles we posted (Chicago Cleveland pre season) we mentioned the name Bernard Berrian, why? Ok let’s see; besides the fact that he was doing great with the Chicago Bears, does a million contract with the Vikings sound accurate? Consent to bring him along this season and we will have a good article on how not to spend million in a season!!

We spoke way to much about offense already, so let’s go back to the track; on defense they remain solid in the secondary and the team will welcome in Madieu Williams to step in at the open safety spot left by Dwight Smith. On special teams we have veteran kicker Ryan Longwell, Bobby Wade and newcomer Maurice Hicks, a pretty solid piece.

Again, with Peterson and Taylor, Minnesota’s top urgency is always to run the ball. Having Bryant McKinnie and Steve Hutchinson on the left side makes this a no-brainer. Last season, Peterson averaged 6.3 yards per carry when running left (Taylor averaged 5.3). There’s a risk the Vikings could be lacking McKinnie for a period of time. The seventh-year pro has been apprehended four times in his career, counting this past offseason after a nightclub brawl in Miami. The charges were dropped in two of McKinnie’s arrests, but he could still face interruption from the NFL. So, thinking future, backup guard Artis Hicks would fill in at left tackle (not a good move). Center Matt Birk is in the final year of his contract and likely won’t be back in 2009. John Sullivan is close to draft. Right guard Anthony Herrera is solid and right tackle Ryan Cook could still become just that. Cook, a beefy second-round pick in ’06, has been more consistent than second rate Marcus Johnson, but he still has some progress to make in his footwork.

Now that Favre is out of Green Bay, what are the chances for the Vikings to shine?
Now they have put together a real solid defense and a strong offense, which could get even better if quarterback Tarvaris Jackson recovers from an injured right knee (Ravens game a couple of weeks ago). We predict an 11-12 this season, so even if Favre remained on Green Bay, the Vikings can make it to the top for the 08-09 campaign.

Minnesota Vikings Tickets – Draft Analysis

Minnesota Vikings Tickets – Draft Analysis

Minnesota Vikings tickets just received a spike in popularity because of the recent NFL Draft. The Vikings picked up some nice players, but the jury is still out as to how effective they will be at addressing the problems from last year. Did the Vikings pick up players who will immediately help out a problem spot? Or will they make an aspect of the team that was already good even better? Let’s check out what the team has done, and then analyze how it will affect the stats for this upcoming year. After that, you can go out to get some Minnesota Viking tickets.

Some of the best statistics for this team from 2007 were on the ground. We can’t decide if the offensive line was better than the defensive, but they were both amazing in 2007. The Vikings were the No. 1 team in the NFL in terms of total rushing yardage gained (2,634), and similarly they were the No. 1 NFL defense in terms of yardage allowed on the ground (1,185). The Vikings allowed the second fewest yards per carry on average of any defense (3.1), but gained the most yardage per rush attempt of any NFL team on offense (5.3). The Vikings had the most rushing touchdowns in the league (22). Because it looks like they have the rushing side of things down solid, the Vikings decided to use the draft to get better in the air- both on offense and defense. While the Vikings did not have a first-round pick, they did have a shot at getting a player in the secondary in the second round. They picked Arkansas St.’s Tyrell Johnson, a safety. Johnson was the 43rd pick overall. While some people question his size, it’s been noted that he’s a sound tackler in the secondary. The Vikings will probably have a good position battle at the S position, because they need to improve their pass defense- and they need to do so quickly.

The Vikings’ passing stats were average to poor last year. Although multiple quarterbacks that lined up in the back field last season threw 14 interceptions (middle of the pack), they only managed to gain 2,746 total passing yards (ranked 28th in the league). Of course, that might have simply been a result of the fact that Minnesota attempted the fewest passing plays in the league (432). Will that change with the addition of USC quarterback John David Booty? The Vikings might be in the mood to get this rookie behind the center if he can be impressive at training camp, although the safe money would bet that he doesn’t start on opening day. Booty is accurate, even while moving, and that’s exactly what the Vikings need. If Booty gets the starting job, Minnesota Viking tickets might just allow you to see a team that utilizes the air from time to time.

Minnesota Vikings – Bernard Berrian

Minnesota Vikings – Bernard Berrian

I made a statement about him back in my September article – Minnesota Vikings 2008 Season Preview- (“besides the fact that he was doing great with the Chicago Bears, does a million contract with the Vikings sound accurate?”)

After all the controversy around this issue, once and for all, I will make the story straight right away.

So, the Bears did propose him a million contract for four years and then the Vikings answered with an astonishing million contract. With an “out of the question statement” the Bears declined to equal the offer and used that money to resign Lance Briggs. During this season Briggs is a superstar and well merits the 6 year and million he consents for.

Even if Bernard Berrian was not on the top 20 WR by the time Minnesota decided to rinse him on cash, he’s background was foretelling that at some point the Bears were not going to regret letting him go.

For those who recognize and understand how the NFL teams manage contracts let’s put it this way: the Bears offered both Devin Hester and Tommie Harris million agreements, they also made Brian Urlacher the highest paid LB in the conference. Now, this is exactly what teams do, they resign players constantly, that’s the way cash flows, that’s why the departure of Berrian does not affect the team, yes he is making million with Minnesota, but the Bears make 10 times as much resigning players.

Bernard Berrian became a practiced possession receiver the last year and a half, fast and sharpen on the field, you can see that by reviewing the stats and studying some of his films. Again, it is not a matter if he is worth the million or not, many aspects come in play. Out of those million, only million are sure money, the rest depends on sponsorship, marketing etc… Teams like the Minnesota Vikings can afford crazy deals like this; they have the money to back it up. When an agreement like this comes to place, they are also thinking about the future, so if by chance Berrian can be traded, they will receive some profit back.

What’s for Bernard this 08-09 campaign? Well, California Cool has had many injuries the past years; he is still recovering from a right toe injury and recently hurt himself in practice again (remember million is sure money). And with 192 receiving yards this past months, Berrian has yet to score a touchdown.

A friendly advice to Bernard Berrian is the following: don’t hit the panic switch, first of all, the Vikings reside in the NFC North Division and this one is yet to prove something on the League. Next, while healthy this past month’s, the Vikings were not playing that well, and finally, you have Tarvaris Jackson beside you.

If the Vikings are signing players for millions of dollars and they are constantly injured, it does not mean they are buying damage goods, it means that injuries are and have been on the NFL vocabulary since the beginning of time.

Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings

American football is the most popular spectator sport in the USA outbidding baseball. There is a well-developed system of league games and the calendar culminates in the Super Bowl, an annual extravaganza. It enjoys highest spectator attendance and wide television coverage. Minnesota Vikings is a popular team from the city of Minneapolis.

The National Football League is the apex professional body that controls the game. The Minnesota Vikings were initially part of the American Football League and joined the NFL in 1961. They have won their divisions 16 times and appeared four times in the Super Bowl.

It has had a checkered history since its formation. Thanks to an aggressive marketing program by the team’s founders, attendance at many of its games at the Metropolitan Stadium hovered around 85%. Eventually, the capacity of the stadium was increased.

The Vikings have played against several teams in the NFL but the much talked about rivalry is against Chicago Bears. The Vikings enjoy huge fan following and every move by the team’s coach and manager throughout the decades has been a subject of immense scrutiny and animated discussion amidst the fans.

The team has an appealing uniform and logo. The logo consists of a profile of a norsman, the original Viking. The uniform is white pants, gold trim and either purple or white jerseys. The helmet is deep purple with a Viking horn logo that has been redesigned recently.

The team has some of the best players in the league like quarterback Brad Johnson and running back Chester Taylor. In fact, Chester’s excellent performance against the Bears this season has become a talking point despite the ultimate loss of the Vikings.

Right from Norm van Brocklin, the team has had some of the best coaches in the league and the current coach Brad Childress is known to bring an innovative approach to the Viking’s game.

Winning With the Minnesota Vikings

Winning With the Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have been on top of their division for quite some time now. Only the Dallas Cowboys made more playoff appearances than the Vikings during the same span of time. The Vikings also played in four Super Bowls, namely Super Bowl IV, VIII, IX, and XI. Only four other teams have surpassed this record.

The professional football saga of the Vikings started in August 1959 in Minneapolis when five businessmen were awarded the franchise in the American Football League. The Minnesota businessmen who started it all were Bill Boyer, Bernie Ridder, Max Winter, Ole Haugsrud, and H.P. Skoglund. However, five months after they were awarded with an AFL franchise, they forfeited it yet was awarded with the National Football League’s 14th franchise. This franchise started to play in 1961.

There is no other team in history that made a spectacular debut as did the Vikings in their first game as a team in September of 1961. Then rookie Fran Tarkenton made an outstanding debut when he threw four touchdown passes coming off fresh from the bench. He also did a run for a fifth score which lead to the defeat of their opponent, the Chicago Bears. Twenty-five years later, Tarkenton became the first Vikings player who became a part of the professional football Hall of Fame.

The first management team of the Minnesota Vikings was led by GM Bert Rose and head coach Norm Van Brocklin. Not only is the Viking an excellent team, they have also done an innovative marketing campaign which encouraged the people to watch every game held in their home stadium. Because of this spectacular campaign, almost all of the seats of the Metropolitan Stadium where they play their home games are full each time a game is played. Eventually, the stadium capacity was increased to accommodate 47,900 people.

Pioneering manager and coach both resigned in 1964 and 1967 and the team resorted to Canadian replacements of their management team. Jim Finks was named as the new general manager and Bud Grant as the new field leader. The success that followed the Vikings in the next few decades have already been associated with a hard-faced Grant on the sidelines of the Metropolitan Stadium. He is ranked at number 8 for coaches of winning teams before he retired permanently in 1985.

It was only in 1982 that the Vikings moved into the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. It was the site of the Super Bowl XXVI having a seating capacity of 63,000. And here, the winning tradition of the Viking still continues to reveal itself to its millions of fans worldwide. Which is a good thing because consistency plays a very important role as a team. Even if the players have changed, they should still uphold the greatness and efforts that their previous players have put into the name of the team. There is only one Minnesota Vikings and all must be done to preserve the integrity of a winning team. And it should be done no matter what it takes.

History of Minnesota Vikings

History of Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team that makes Minneapolis, Minnesota its home base. They are part of the National Football League and play in the North Division of the National Football Conference. They were originally going to be part of the American Football League, but the ownership found that they preferred to be in the NFL. They were a 1961 expansion team.

As a NFL member, they have won their division. They have the distinction of being the first to appear in four Super Bowls as well as being the first to lose four Super Bowls.

The Minnesota Vikings history begins in August of 1959 when three Minnesotan businessmen named Bill Boyer, H.P. Skoglund and Max Winter were awarded with a new franchise in the American Football League. Bernie Ridder joined these three men in their ownership of the team and this ownership decided to forfeit their AFL membership and become part of the National Football League. To become part of the NFL, they had to add Ole Haugsrund as part of the ownership. The NFL had a deal with him that he would get 10% of any future Minnesota team as compensation for buying his Minnesotan football team in the 1920′s. They accepted this new member to their group and they were awarded with the NFL’s 14th franchise. The team did not play until 1961.

Other than losing four Super Bowls in their history, Minnesota Vikings are known for making one of the biggest personnel blunders in the history of the NFL. This blunder took place when they acquired Herschel Walker from Dallas. In the deal, they got Herschel, a 3rd draft pick (Mike Jones), a 5th draft pick (Reggie Thornton), a 1990 10th round choice (Pat Newman) and a 1991 3rd round choice named Jake Reed. In return, Dallas got Issiac Holt, David Howard, Darrin Nelson, Jesse Solomon, Alex Stewart, 1990 1st, 2nd and 6th round choices, 1991 1st and 2nd round choices and the 1992 1st and 2nd round choices. Dallas Cowboys definitely got the better part of this deal. As result of this deal, they got Emmit Smith and Darren Woodson. Their draft picks lead them to 3 Super Bowl victories in the 1990s. The Minnesota Vikings did not win any Super Bowls and Herschel Walker did not have a good career with the team.

A rune stone that was found in a small Minnesotan town supposedly curses the Minnesota Vikings. It is known how you get rid of the curse.

Minnesota Vikings Tickets for Football With Muscle

Minnesota Vikings Tickets for Football With Muscle

Football enthusiasts across the country can count on Minnesota Vikings tickets to give them the kind of football action they want to see. True to their name, the Vikings have certainly emerged as one of the real warriors of the NFL and have always given the opposing side a real fight to the finish. For fans and football lovers everywhere, the Vikings can be counted on to deliver a killer game of football.

The Minnesota Vikings play under the National Football League and are also affiliated to the National Football Conference and the NFC North. The Vikings play all their home games at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome and currently have sixteen Division titles to their name, the third most in the division. The Vikings also have one League title and four Conference wins to their name.

Hail Mary And Purple People Eaters

The Minnesota Vikings entered the football fray in 1960 and the name Vikings was chosen to reflect the Scandinavian culture of Minnesota. Minnesota Vikings tickets were an immediate hot seller because the Vikings literally stormed into the NFL and game attendance almost touched 35000. The Vikings played so well that by 1969 they had the best record in the NFL and the longest single season winning streak in 35 years.

The seventies brought even more reasons to buy Minnesota Vikings tickets. By then, the Vikings had one of the most powerful defensive lines ever, referred to as the Purple People Eaters. In 1975, the team was part of a controversial game called the Hail Mary Game, where a touchdown was seen by some to be in violation of the rules. The pass was a desperate one and came to be known as a Hail Mary.

Awful Eighties And New Beginnings

The 1980s weren’t very kind to the Vikings. Though Minnesota Vikings ticket sales were steady, the team hit a franchise worst record of 13 losses in 1984. In 1989, the Vikings pulled off what has gone down in NFL history as one of the biggest personnel mistakes ever. They chose Herschel Walker in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys that ultimately left the Vikings hanging since Walker failed to live up to their expectations. Conversely, the Cowboys were able to use their new players to make it to the Super Bowl.

It wouldn’t be until 1991 when the arrival of Jerry Burns would signal a turn around for the team. The team steadily improved and by 1998, the Vikings had some memorable achievements to their credit. They set an NFL record by scoring 556 points with a minimum of 24 points a game. They would also finish the season with an enviable 15-1 season but would also lose their bid for the Super Bowl.

Today Minnesota Vikings tickets are still selling strong and the team look poised to do some serious damage to their rivals on the field. Despite having a few hiccups early on, the Vikings are a team with tremendous spirit and potential. They are long overdue for a big win and football lovers everywhere are waiting for the Vikings to get into action. Is Minneapolis a good place to live?

So i have been thinking about moving to Minneapolis. I am wondering what it is like, because i have never been there!
I currently live in North-west Montana, so i am use to the cold winters, and mild/hot summers. I have never lived in a city.
I want to be a flight attendent, so i know i could live in Minneapolis. Is it expensive?
I dont have much reasons for wanting to live there besides i want to live in a city with a major airport.

I guess i also love the vikings ;) but thats not a good reason.

Anyway whats it like?

Oh and whats the night life like?
