We bought a house this year and found to my delight that we have grape vines that have been growing, apparently untended, all over the property. From what I could see of the dried and frozen grapes still on the vine, they are a small grape, I would guess smaller than a Concord, but similar in color to a Concord. I would like to know what kind it is so I know how to use them this fall. We are in Central Minnesota and the only protection from the weather they’ve had is that some are within a few feet of the house and most get southern exposure, so they must be quite hardy, but unfortunately I don’t know any more about them. Does anyone have suggestions about what variety they could be, or some way of finding out? Thanks!

I just got off the phone with my son in Minnesota and needless to say I’m a bit disappointed. Him and one of his coworkers inadvertently set off a fire alarm while they were playing around with a fog machine. Instead of calling the fire department to let them know that it was a false alarm they panicked and left the property (honestly I can say if I were 18 again I’d probably panic too) he is unsure if the fire panel contacted the fire department and now knows that he’s gotta start thinking. I suggested he inform the property he was at that it was him and inform them of what happened. But knowing my son he more than likely will ride it out. What kind of criminal charges could he face if he A: turns himself in or B: rides it out and gets found out?

After reviewing the first answer I discovered I left out a pertinent detail. He works security, and he was contracted out to this place. He was at a housing community, in the main office. Weather or not the fog machine was theirs or the company’s is beyond me.

My house has been listed for 3 weeks with no feedback, except for one drive by that was looking for a home for 250k less. Is it b/c of the weather we have been hit with a lot of snow and this weekend was the 1st nice weekend for looking for home? Also, does anybody have any feedback on open houses do they work or is it more of a show for the Neighbors.

My Husband is thinking of relocating but we don’t want to go too far from St. Louis, he is in the Reserves and may transfer to a unit near St. Louis, Anyways, we both have lived in St. Louis our whole lives and want to get out. We live outside of the city (about 15 miles), so its not too bad. I was looking at bestcities.net and they showed Indiana, Wisconsin and North Dakota. I don’t want to Minnesota for sure or Iowa. I want some place that is warm and doesn’t have too bad of winters. St. Louis is the city that had all kinds of weather every season.

Like I said, we don’t want to go too far, but he will mainly be going for the weekend down near St. Louis, once a month or so, so he wont be driving it often. We don’t want to live in a big city, Chicago isn’t want we want and we want some place that has a lot of activities, especially for kids. We have 2 children both under 3. One of the big things also, is low crime rate.

So what do you prefer? Have you gone or lived somewhere that you would prefer?

I am considering relocating after living in Minnesota for the last 15 years. I am just so sick of the weather here. I’m a single guy with two dogs and a girlfriend. I’m in my late 30′s and currently work as a precision VMC machinist with tons of CAM/ conversational programming and setup experience. I also have a decade experience as a Tool and Die maker, building mainly progs and trimmers – no designing.
I was wondering if the Raleigh Durham area is a technical manufacturing friendly area. I suppose I could research on the web, but I thought I’d just throw it out there and see if I could get an insiders viewpoint.
When I was a young boy I lived in NC in the early 70′s for a few years while my pop was obtaining his Phd at Duke. We lived out in the sticks in a small town called Bahama? Is that right???? Anyway, How’s life there? Can you tell me how long the drive to the shore is? Thanks

My family is considering a move to Minneapolis but I’ve only been there briefly. I used to live in Portland, Maine and wondering if anyone if familiar with how the weather compares. Specifically, it seems Minneapolis has colder winters but maybe shorter?? Are the summers warmer and longer?
